Our Approach
We are a Washington, D.C. (Dupont Circle) based psychiatry practice that serves the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia area via in-person and telemedicine appointments. Dr. Pacheco and Dr. Chen are medically trained physicians with experience working in hospitals, clinics, and rural settings. Our specialization — mental health throughout the lifespan — is informed by our training in medicine across the entirety of the body’s systems. We use our experience to identify data-driven diagnoses and treatments for each unique patient. At Pacheco Family Psychiatry, we work with individuals with a range of mental health needs and differentiate ourselves by our dedication to understanding the details. Above all, we will approach your care with partnership, humility, and compassion.

Thomas Pacheco, M.D.
Adult Psychiatrist

Dr. Pacheco has experience treating all forms of mental illness. He works diligently with every individual to relieve distress and build towards flourishing. His guiding philosophy for care is the combination of partnership, humility, and shared goal-setting. He will work with you to find personalized solutions — beginning with a thorough history, then developing a treatment plan targeted towards achievable goals and sustained wellbeing. He is a curious and caring doctor who listens deeply and will take your concerns seriously. For Dr. Pacheco, judicious treatment will always be informed by his background in psychopharmacology and psychotherapy.Dr. Pacheco splits his time between Pacheco Family Psychiatry and Anchor Mental Health, a community psychiatric clinic through Catholic Charities. He has published in major medical journals including JAMA, maintains connections to Georgetown University Hospital and the NIH, and is an alumnus fellow of the Leonine Forum.

Amy Chen, M.D.
Adult Psychiatrist, Child & Adolescent Fellow

Dr. Chen’s current focus is working with young adults, as well as adults of all ages with neurodevelopmental disorders such as ADHD and autism. She uses a developmental lens to best understand the impact of an individual’s upbringing, family dynamics, and major life transitions on their mental health. As part of a complete intake, she typically engages the family, school, therapist, or other key supports in developing a comprehensive treatment plan. She is excited to partner with families from the District, Maryland, and Virginia.

Fees & Service
We are out of network with insurance providers at this time. After each visit, we provide you with a "superbill" that you can submit to your insurance company for out-of-network reimbursement.
A superbill is a detailed receipt for your visit, which you may then submit directly to your insurance company as an out-of-network claim. Your insurer will then determine your reimbursement amount based on your specific plan.
If you have questions about reimbursement, we recommend contacting your insurance provider directly to understand your coverage before your first visit.
In the case of need for a home visit, an hourly rate will be used for travel.
